Refunds, Returns & Order Changes Policy

Overview

Deer Lake Designs and Oakwright Furniture build furniture to order, including both standardized furniture selections and custom projects. Because many items are made specifically for each customer, our refund, return, and cancellation policies differ from those of traditional retail stores. Please review your order details carefully before completing your purchase.

Standard Oakwright Orders

Oakwright furniture is produced based on the options selected at the time of purchase.

Once production has begun, orders may not be eligible for cancellation, refund, or return except in cases involving verified damage, defects, or an error by Deer Lake Designs. If you need to request a change or cancellation, contact us as soon as possible. We will review the order status and let you know what options are available. Approved changes may result in additional charges if materials have already been ordered, production has started, or the requested change increases the cost of the order.

Custom Furniture Orders

Custom furniture is built specifically to the customer's approved specifications and is therefore not returnable or refundable simply because the customer changes their mind. Custom projects require acceptance of the applicable proposal and agreement before production begins.

Deposits for custom furniture are non-refundable once materials have been purchased or production has begun, as outlined in the applicable customer agreement. Changes requested after approval may require:

  • Revised pricing
  • Additional material charges
  • Extended production time
  • A revised proposal or agreement

Any requested change is subject to approval based on the stage of production.

Damaged or Defective Items

If your furniture arrives damaged, defective, or materially different from the approved order specifications, please contact us promptly after delivery or pickup.

Please provide:

  • Your name
  • Order number
  • Description of the issue
  • Photos showing the damage or concern

We will review the issue and determine the appropriate resolution. Depending on the circumstances, the resolution may include:

  • Repair
  • Replacement of a component
  • Replacement of the item
  • Other appropriate corrective action

Natural Wood Characteristics

Deer Lake Designs uses real wood and handcrafted construction. Natural variations in wood are expected and are not considered defects. These may include:

Grain variation

  • Knots
  • Color variation
  • Mineral streaks
  • Natural markings
  • Minor differences between boards
  • Other characteristics inherent to natural wood

Because each piece of wood is unique, finished furniture may vary slightly from photographs, samples, or previous pieces.

Finish and Color Variation

Wood stain, paint, and finish appearance may vary based on:

  • Wood species
  • Grain pattern
  • Lighting
  • Natural material variation
  • Screen or monitor settings
  • Reasonable variation in color or finish is not considered a defect.

Returns

Because most furniture is made to order, Deer Lake Designs generally does not accept routine merchandise returns. A return must be specifically authorized by Deer Lake Designs before furniture is brought back, shipped, or otherwise returned. Unauthorized returns may be refused.

Refunds

If a refund is approved, it will generally be issued to the original payment method when possible. Processing time may vary depending on the payment provider or financial institution. Delivery charges, custom work, completed labor, materials already purchased, and other non-recoverable costs may not be refundable unless the refund results from an error by Deer Lake Designs.

Order Cancellations

Cancellation requests should be made as soon as possible. Whether an order can be cancelled depends on its production status. If production has not begun and materials have not been committed to the order, Deer Lake Designs may approve cancellation. Once materials have been ordered, cut, finished, or otherwise committed to the order, some or all amounts paid may become non-refundable. Custom furniture cancellations are also subject to the terms of the applicable custom furniture agreement.

Exchanges

Traditional product exchanges are generally not available for made-to-order furniture. If Deer Lake Designs determines that an item should be replaced because of a verified defect, damage, or order error, we will coordinate the replacement or corrective action directly with the customer.

Pickup Orders

Customers selecting pickup are responsible for:

  • Arriving at the agreed pickup time
  • Providing an appropriate vehicle
  • Properly securing and transporting the furniture after pickup

Ownership and responsibility for transportation generally transfer to the customer once the furniture has been released for pickup.

Curbside Delivery

Deer Lake Designs provides or coordinates curbside delivery where available. Delivery is curbside only unless otherwise specifically agreed in writing. Customers are responsible for moving furniture from the curbside delivery point into the home, building, or final placement location.

Any visible delivery damage should be reported as soon as possible.

Delivery Fees

Delivery charges are separate from the furniture purchase price unless otherwise stated. Delivery fees may be based on routed distance from the Deer Lake Designs pickup location. If a refund is approved for the furniture, delivery charges are not necessarily refundable unless the issue resulted from an error by Deer Lake Designs.

Missed Pickup or Delivery

If a customer is unavailable for a scheduled pickup or delivery, additional scheduling or delivery charges may apply. Repeated missed appointments may require payment of additional fees before another delivery attempt is scheduled.

Final Sale Items

Certain items may be designated as final sale. Final sale items are not eligible for return or refund except where Deer Lake Designs determines there is a verified defect, damage, or order error.

Policy Changes

Deer Lake Designs may update this policy from time to time. The version posted on the applicable website at the time of purchase will apply to that order unless otherwise stated.
