Frequently Asked Questions
We’re Here to Help
Choosing a handcrafted piece of furniture is different from buying something off the showroom floor—and we think that’s a good thing. At Oakwright Furniture, each piece is thoughtfully made or finished for your home. From choosing the right table size and wood to understanding delivery and caring for your furniture, our family is here to make the process as easy and enjoyable as possible.
Handcrafted woodworking from our family workshop to your home. Every piece tells a story of authentic craftsmanship and timeless design.
Choosing Your Furniture
How do I know what size table I need?
Start with two things: the size of your room and how many people you’d like to seat. As a general guideline, a 6-foot rectangular table seats about six people, while an 8-foot table seats about eight. A 48-inch round table typically seats four.
We recommend allowing at least 3 feet of clearance around all sides of your table so chairs can comfortably pull out and people can move around the room. Not sure? That’s exactly the kind of thing we’re happy to help with.

Is there an easy way to visualize the table in my room?
Yes—and you don’t need fancy design software. Use painter’s tape to outline the dimensions of the table on your floor, or fold a bedsheet to approximately the size of the table.
Then walk around it, pull up your existing chairs and see how the size feels in the room. It’s a simple trick that can make choosing the right dimensions much easier.

Can you help me choose the right size?
Absolutely. Give us the dimensions of your dining space, tell us how many people you typically seat and what you’re hoping to create. We’ll help guide you toward a table size and shape that makes sense for your home.

What if I need more seating but don’t have a large dining room?
Consider adding a bench. Benches can provide flexible seating when you have extra guests and can often tuck underneath the table when they aren’t being used.
About Our Furniture
Is every piece exactly the same?
No—and that’s part of what makes real wood furniture so beautiful. Wood is a natural material, so grain patterns, knots, mineral streaks, color variations and other natural markings will vary from piece to piece. Those differences give your furniture its individual character and mean no two pieces will look exactly alike.
Will my wood and stain look exactly like the photos online?
Photos and samples are a great guide, but wood species, grain patterns, lighting and even your computer or phone screen can affect how a finish appears.
Because stain interacts differently with every piece of natural wood, some variation should be expected. Rather than seeing those differences as imperfections, we think they’re part of what makes handcrafted wood furniture special.
Is your furniture handmade?
Our furniture is handcrafted rather than mass-manufactured. That means you may see subtle differences in dimensions, texture, grain and appearance that are characteristic of handmade furniture.
The goal isn’t to make a piece that looks like it rolled off an assembly line. It’s to create beautiful, well-crafted furniture with the character of real wood and genuine craftsmanship.
Custom Furniture
Can you build something specifically for my home?
Yes—custom furniture gives us the opportunity to create something designed around your space, style and needs.
For custom projects, we’ll work through important details such as dimensions, wood, construction, finish and delivery before production begins. Once everything is approved, your piece moves into our workshop.

How long does custom furniture take?
Our initial production estimate for custom furniture is generally approximately 4–6 weeks after the required specifications are approved, the agreement is signed and the deposit has cleared.
Because handcrafted furniture depends on materials, workshop capacity and other factors, completion dates are estimates rather than guarantees. If something affects your timeline, we’ll communicate with you and provide an updated estimate.
Can I make changes after I place my order?
Contact us as soon as you realize you’d like to make a change.
If production hasn’t started or materials haven’t been committed, changes may be relatively simple. Once materials have been ordered or work has begun, a change may affect the price or completion timeline.
We’ll review where your piece is in the process and explain the options before moving forward.
Pickup & Delivery
Do you offer delivery?
Yes. We offer curbside delivery to eligible locations within approximately 150 miles of our Grain Valley, Missouri workshop. Delivery beyond 150 miles may also be possible and requires a separate quote.
How much does delivery cost?
For addresses within 25 miles of our workshop, curbside delivery is $250.
For locations more than 25 miles and up to 150 miles away, delivery is $10 per total one-way routed mile.
If you’re more than 150 miles away, contact us and we can determine whether delivery is available and provide a quote.
What does curbside delivery mean?
Curbside delivery brings your furniture to the curbside delivery point at your address. It does not include moving the furniture inside your home, unpacking, assembly or final placement unless other arrangements have specifically been made in writing.
Solid hardwood furniture can be heavy, so please have enough people and the proper equipment available to safely move your new piece into your home.
Learn more about our shipping details here.
Can I pick up my furniture?
Of course. Pickup is available at our Grain Valley workshop and should be scheduled in advance.
You’ll need an appropriately sized vehicle and the equipment necessary to safely secure your furniture for the trip home.
What should I measure before ordering?
In addition to measuring the room itself, take a look at the entire path your furniture will travel.
Measure doorways, hallways, stairways, elevators and other tight spaces to make sure your furniture can safely make its way into its new home.
If you’re unsure, ask us before ordering. We’d much rather help you double-check beforehand.
Orders & Returns
Can I return my furniture?
Because most Oakwright furniture is made or finished specifically for each customer, we generally do not accept routine returns.
Custom furniture is created according to your approved specifications and is not returnable simply because you change your mind.
If you have a concern with your furniture, however, please contact us. We want to understand what happened and determine how we can help.
Learn more by reviewing our returns policy.
Can I cancel my order?
Please contact us as soon as possible if your plans change.
Whether an order can be cancelled depends on how far it has progressed. Once materials have been purchased, cut, finished or otherwise committed to your project, some or all of the amount paid may be non-refundable.
We’ll review your order and explain what options are available.
What if my furniture arrives damaged?
Please inspect your furniture as carefully as possible when you receive it.
If you see damage, take photos of the furniture, packaging and affected area and contact us promptly. When possible, note visible delivery damage before the delivery provider leaves.
We’ll review the situation and work with you to determine an appropriate solution, which may include repair, replacement of a component, replacement of the item or another corrective action.
To learn more about our return policy, please review this page or contact us to learn more.
What if I think there’s a problem with the craftsmanship?
Please reach out to us. We stand behind the care and skill that goes into our work and want the opportunity to inspect and address a suspected workmanship issue.
Keep in mind that natural wood characteristics—such as knots, grain and color variations—are expected and are part of the beauty of solid wood furniture.
Caring for Your Furniture
How should I care for my new furniture?
A little everyday care will help your handcrafted furniture stay beautiful for years.
Keep your furniture in a reasonably stable indoor environment, avoid excessive moisture or extreme dryness, wipe up water promptly and protect the surface from sustained direct sunlight and heat.
Using coasters and protective pads is also a good idea, and avoid abrasive cleaners, standing water or cleaning products that aren’t appropriate for your furniture’s finish.
